Christmas with the Goods

Is it just me or is Good Neighbors (The Good Life in the U.K.) more relevant today than it was 30+ years ago.

For most PBS stations across the country, this was the first (if not the second) Britcom ever aired after Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Richard Briers, Felicity Kendal, Paul Eddington and Penelope Keith were perfect in their respective roles and all went on to a lengthy Britcom career.

Interestingly, the Margo character started out in the first episode as a voice-over only but the role quickly expanded as the series continued under the writing genius of the team of Bob Larbey and John Esmonde.

Continuing our look at the holidays, Britcom-style, Tom, Barbara and Jerry celebrate the holidays as only the Goods could. Unfortunately, Margo suffers through it with the Daily Mirror until Tom saves the day.

  • I was just thinking the other day I should mention the current relevance of this show. It is my all-time favorite Britcom after “As Time Goes By”. I have the first three seasons on DVD and I love to watch it in the kitchen while I’m cleaning and prepping all my veggies for the week. I didn’t grow them myself (not yet at least), but it still makes the task much more enjoyable.
