On the Set with Charles Brogdon

This is just plain cool. No big revelation about your favorite British comedy series or your favorite British star, just someone doing something they love and wanting to share with others. Charles Brogdon’s flickr page tells the story of On the Set: Mini Studio Sets.

In Charles’ own words, he explains where his passion for mini-movie and television sets began. “As a kid I loved visiting Hollywood and seeing various TV sets in soundstages. I was always forbidden from taking pictures so I would come home and build what I saw. Now I have brought them out for you to see and have some half finished ones I am finally getting done as well as brand new ones. Sets are made of lots of different things but the basis is Lego bricks. A set can take from 2 weeks to a month to complete. Some people build model ships… I build model sets“.

As you can see, Brogdon has created mini studio sets from Seinfeld to BBC World News to Keeping Up Appearances (at left, including the all-important white slimline telephone with last number redial facility) to I Love Lucy to Friends, and more. Spend some quality time on the site and you’ll also see miniature studio sets from Warner Brothers (w/out Yakko, Wakko and Dot running roughshod through the back lot in Burbank), Paramount and Sunset Gower Studios. Have to say, best of all is perhaps the most ahead-of-its-time series of all-time, Pee Wee’s Playhouse, which is pretty darn cool.
