For your viewing pleasure, there are a couple of upcoming gems on the Dame Judi Dench horizon. One sooner than the other, but both well worth the wait.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

From the director of Shakespeare in Love, the star-studded film features the likes of a couple of Dames (Judi Dench and Maggie Smith), the great Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) and Celia Imrie. Will be a bit of a wait, unfortunately, as the film is slated for a March 9, 2012 release in the U.S. at this time. Definitely something to put on the calendar, however.

J. Edgar

The ‘sooner’ of the sooner rather than later release will be the highly-anticipated, Clint Eastwood directed, J. Edgar. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts and, of course, Dame Judi Dench as Hoover’s mother, Anne Marie. From early trailers, DiCaprio is brilliant as the first director of the FBI. The film is slated for a November 9 release in the U.S. and a 20 January 2012 release in the UK. Guess this is our trade-off for having to wait for Tinker Tailor. As good as J. Edgar is supposed to be, I’d rather not have to wait for Tinker Tailor….but that’s just me. Both well worth the time.
