Dark Shadows targets May 2012 for premiere

Dark Shadows. Just the name conjures up early memories of rushing to get home from school just in time to draw the drapes making it as dark as possible in the room in order to get the full experience of watching the daily exploits of the Collins family. It’s been 40+ years since the series that portrayed vampires before vampires were cool was broadcast on network television. Enter Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and even Jonathan Frid with the long, long-awaited adaptation of the gothic soap opera, created by Dan Curtis.

With a target premiere date set for 11 May 2012 in the U.S., the Tim Burton adaptation starring Johnny Depp began shooting in May of 2011 at Pinewood Studios in London. The film also stars Helena Bonham Carter, fresh from receiving her New Years Day CBE Honors for services to drama, Michelle Pfieffer, Johnny Lee Miller, Eva Green and Christopher Lee. Also appearing the cast is Jonathan Frid who played Barnabas Collins in the original 1960’s television series. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Even though Burton has kept a very tight lid on the film so far, from the looks of things, this is Tim Burton at his Sleepy Hollow and Batman finest. The thought of the spooky Burton and a brilliant Johnny Depp working on a project which both have had a passion for since childhood makes me want to get in line now. Anyone else remember watching this as a kid? You had 1,225 chances over the 5 years it ran so there has to be someone besides me….

My cousins watched it, but I thought it was too scary! ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, yes. I remember Dark Shadows, but I was not rushing home from school to see it; I was already home. I was just a wee pre-school lad (before there was pre-school) when my mom would watch Dark Shadows while ironing clothes as I sat close to the ironing board so as not to get attacked by the vampires, werewolves and witches that showed up at Collinwood. Great memories and I look forward to (as does mom) the return of Barnabas and Co.

  • I was too young to see it the first time around, but my mom loved this show and I don’t think she’s heard anything about this reboot. She’s going to be excited when I tell her! Thanks, Bill!

I loved this show when I was a teen: every one of my friends did, too! It’s so much fun to have Tim Burton, Johhny Depp, and the rest of this delicious (in so many ways)cast bringing it back to life.

  • Jonthan Frid, Lara Parker, David Selby and I are all thrilled to have cameos in the new Dark Shadows film . . . look for my new book, DARK SHADOWS: RETURN TO COLLINWOOD presenting 5 decades of Dark Shadows, including the new film with Johnny Depp!

Who would of thought, that as a 13 yr.old watching Dark Shadows, that years later I’d actually be able to see them in person & even shake hands & talk to them!!! Of course this will be a giant hit for Tim & Johnny as we anxiously await the showing!

I always watched “Dark Shadows,” while raising my two sons. It was a great show, and I’m pleased Johnny Depp will be doing the lead. If anyone can do it, he can! Another good candidate would have been Alan Rickman.

I’ve LOVED Dark Shadows since watching the original series as a teen, and I’m absolutely looking forward to the movie. I’ll be there for sure during the premiere weekend!!!

Just can’t wait for the release here in the states. I don’t go to movies much but will wait in line for this one. I am thrilled that Johnny Depp is in the lead role and even more thrilled that Burton has graciously invited many of the original cast to have cameo roles. How sweet it is!!!!!!!!!!!
