Only Fools and Horses U.S. re-make to get 're-make'

As the disturbing news made its way from the U.S. broadcast network ‘upfronts’ last week that CBS’ remake of a modern day Sherlock, Elementary, was picked up as a series and scheduled for the Thursday at 10p ET slot this Fall, there is hope. Digital Spy has reported that ABC’s “Americanized version” of Only Fools and Horses was not picked up for the 2012-2013 and is scheduled to be “redeveloped”. No word, as of yet, as to what “redeveloped” means, but I’m assuming the cast of John Leguizamo (Del Boy), Paul Ybarra (Rodney), Happy Endings B.J. Bates (Trigger) and Christopher Lloyd (Grandad) will remain intact.

Redeveloped or not, Sir David Jason, the original Del Boy Trotter, is not quite the fan of the attempt to Americanize what has been widely considered one of the greatest British comedy series of all time suggesting that, “…It might work but you’ve got to change it so much that, in the change, in order to Americanise it, do you lose the whole concept of the piece?“. Fans of the original British series are right there with you, Sir David. Earlier, the network took to the Modern Family facebook page to ask fans to help with the title. When Cancelled After Five Episodes received more than several votes and comments, you could guess it was going to be a bumpy road to make it to the ABC line-up this Fall.

I was not happy to hear of the American version, but I am impressed that they snared the wonderful Christopher Lloyd for a part.  Still, I cannot imagine it will be a hit.  I do not think you can Americanise a show like that.
