Valco to re-open doors for a second series of Trollied

Some extremely welcome news on the comedy front as Sky1 HD unlocks the doors of Valco later this month for a second series of Trollied on Sky1 HD. You might remember, Trollied was renewed for a second AND third series, a massive 26 episode commitment, after a very successful first series run last Summer. Set in Valco, a fictional supermarket in the north-west of England, Trollied stars Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous), Jason Watkins (Being Human) and Mark Addy (Thin Blue Line, Full Monty, Game of Thrones). If you haven’t seen, you need to power watch the first set of 8 episodes before series two begins. It’s The Office set in a grocery store. The success of the series lies with the employees of Valco, the heart and soul of Trollied and the brilliant cast that bring them to life.

As an added bonus, the series was created by Ash Atalla. You may not be familiar with the name, but you definitely know his work. Atalla produced a number of episodes of both The Office and The IT Crowd. Not too shabby.

In creating Trollied, Atalla discussed his thoughts on comedy in general, “…I’m obsessed by the workplace in terms of comedy. There are so many nuances and petty, arbitrary hierarchies that no matter what position you’re in, everybody has somebody to look down on, and I love that. I’ve been into the people-watching possibilities of supermarkets for quite a long time. I like the way people enter supermarkets almost in a trance-like state”.

The teasers that have started to pop up for series 2, set to begin later this month on Sky1HD, seem to indicate that Trollied will do nothing but build on a really good first series. How can you go wrong with the likes of Jane Horrocks, Mark Addy and Jason Watkins in addition to a great ensemble cast of characters working at Valco. And, as viewers, we can all go in to series two with the knowledge that Valco will be around next year too for your shopping and viewing pleasure. Take a look. I bet you’ll see someone you know or maybe even recognize yourself in one of Trollied‘s employees or customers.

Trollied is fantastic! The characters are funny just as they are and the scripts don’t rely on extreme or unbelievable situations to make it work. It’s just life in the supermarket fast-lane. Margaret is a gem!
