Malcolm Tucker as the next Doctor? Place your bets.

Ho-hum. Another day, another name thrown into the naming of the Twelfth Doctor hat. Most recently, it’s The Thick Of It star Peter Capaldi, who has actually become the new bookies’ favorite at odds of 2/1. So, that makes it official doesn’t it? Think about it. As Malcolm Tucker, his reputation preceded him in his own party, the media and even among the opposition. As the Twelfth Doctor, he would have an equally as brilliant of a reputation that would precede him with the entire world.

Since the announced departure of Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, the most shared articles on the Internets have involved either Andy Murray winning Wimbledon, trying to both guess the birth an ultimate name of the newest Royal Baby or who will be named the next Doctor.

Over the past few months, we’ve heard the pros and cons of the Doctor being a woman. We’ve had write-in campaigns to get the likes of Helen Mirren put up for consideration and others openly campaign for the job as the newest Traveling Time Lord. Now…

William Hill, one of the United Kingdom’s largest bookkeepers, saw Capaldi’s name shoot to the top of the list this week. Seeing 60% of all bets placed this week on Capaldi, William Hill spokesman, Joe Crilly, issued the following statement, “Peter Capaldi was not even in our list a few days ago but he has been the subject of a lot of betting interest recently. This gamble would suggest that if he does not have the part already, he is almost certainly on the shortlist.

If you’re curious as to how things are currently playing out in the betting circles the current odds on the Twelfth Doctor are as follows:

2/1 Peter Capaldi
4/1 Ben Daniels
6/1 Rory Kinnear
10/1 Ben Whishaw
10/1 David Harewood
10/1 Idris Elba
12/1 Chiwetel Ejiofor
12/1 David Molony
16/1 Andrew Scott
16/1 Chris Addison
16/1 James Frain
16/1 Russell Tovey
20/1 Alex Jennings
20/1 Benedict Cumberbatch
20/1 John Hurt
20/1 Daniel Radcliffe
25/1 Billie Piper
25/1 Hugh Grant
25/1 Rupert Grint
33/1 Colin Morgan

I don’t know about you, but I’m with longtime Tellyspotting faithful, Ashley, in wanting to see Malcolm Tucker as the next Doctor. How about you?

Yes, Peter Capaldi would be amazing. I really hope he gets it. Sunday feels like such a long ways offffffffff……

Maybe some day they’ll do a woman doctor. Not keen on Mirren or Piper. They would need someone like Olivia Colman. She ‘s got the gravitas but also the quirky, peppy thing. But with her star in ascendancy she’s better off doing other work for now. I even think Miranda could do it, after seeing her range in Call the Midwice. Ooo, I’d love to see Dawn French as the doctor.

P.s. Can’t believe how George Gently ended last night!!! I kept yelling at the tv, ” nooooooooo.”

I forgot to mention that I thought Laurence Fox would be a great Doctor. Sad not to see his name on that list.

Wow, I hadn’t heard of this possibility, but yes, Peter Capaldi would be a great choice! Well, we’ll find out in a couple of days…
