Did Andy Murray take Ben’s tennis advice after all?

In 2011, British tennis ace Andy Murray was given advice for defeating Roger Federer in a commercial for Comic Relief Red Nose Day. Murray was unfortunate enough to bump into the Brockmans, the dysfunctional family at the center of the semi-improvisational BBC comedy, Outnumbered. Things seem to start out well when Jake enthusiastically greets Andy but, as you can only imagine, things go downhill pretty quickly with the arrival of Jakes’ dad Pete (Hugh Dennis) and, especially, brother Ben (Daniel Roche) and sister Karen (Ramona Marquez).

Two years ago to the day today, in 2013, Andy Murray ended Britain’s 77-year wait for a Wimbledon men’s singles champion with a three-set win over Novak Djokovic to become the first British man to win the Wimbledon singles title since Fred Perry won in 1936. Since both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer didn’t make it far enough to face Murray in the finals, there appears to be no direct correlation between Murray’s victory and Ben’s advice. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.
