PBS gets ‘Vicious’ again with series 2 premiering Aug 23

Brilliance personified in the form of the British comedy hit, Vicious, returns to PBS on Sunday, 23 August. It has been awhile but, at long last, Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Derek Jacobi are back and are as turbulent (and bitchy) as ever. The two ‘Sirs”, who star as Freddie and Stuart, an elderly couple who have lived together in their Covent Garden flat for over a half century, will again be joined by Frances de la Tour, who is also back as their flighty neighbor Violet, along with Iwan Rheon, Marica Warren and Philip Voss as Ash, Penelope and Mason, respectively.

The loving (and bickering) couple of over 50 years soon discover that change is all around them amongst their close circle of friends. It seems Violet has married a mystery man who now seems to have gone AWOL. Ash is all loved up with new girlfriend Jess (played by guest star Georgia King). And ditzy Penelope and no nonsense Mason continue to be baffled by everyone around them. In the first episode of series 2, we meet Lillian who is Violet’s sister, played by the greatness that is Celia Imrie (After You’ve Gone, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).

Looking at the promo, it seems change for Freddie and Stuart also means trying new things to spice up their half century relationship as they try ballroom dancing, actually see the inside of a gym for the first time and tackle sushi.

Vicious 2 premieres Sunday, 23 August on PBS.
