Philip Glenister becomes next ‘Prey’ for DS Susan Reinhardt

When series two of the brilliant BAFTA-nominated ITV police drama, Prey, returns later this year, DS Susan Reinhardt will be putting another Life on Mars alumni in her sights. In series one, it was John Simm who starred as Detective Constable Marcus Farrow, the well-liked detective with the Manchester Metropolitan Police and husband with two children. His life falls apart when he finds his wife murdered and all the evidence points directly to him. Discovered at the scene of the crime, Marcus escapes and goes underground in Manchester as a criminal on the streets he used to police.

Life on Mars' Philip Glenister next Prey for DS Susan Reinhardt

When series two premieres, DS Susan Reinhardt’s (played by Rosie Cavaliero) new target becomes Simm’s LOM running buddy, Philip Glenister, who plays prison officer David Murdoch. His life becomes just a bit complicated when on a routine visit to a Manchester hospital with female prisoner Jules Hope events spiral out of control. David takes a phone call, which will change his life forever and suddenly sees him on the wrong side of the law.

With the life of his heavily pregnant daughter, Emma, threatened, David has no alternative but to go ‘on the run’ and become ‘the prey.’Let the chase begin…

Filmed in Manchester, Salford and Blackpool, on the surface, Prey 2 appears to have all the elements that made the first series as gripping and as fast-paced as hell. For my money, Philip Glenister is up there with Bill Nighy, Suranne Jones and Andrew Scott. Anything they are involved in is brilliant and should be considered appointment telly.

Look for Prey 2 later this year on ITV.
