Masterpiece to adapt Gill Hornby’s ‘Miss Austen’ for PBS!

While this is definitely not Jane Austen’s first rodeo on PBS whether it be earlier adaptations of Mansfield Park, Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey, Emma or even the most recent adaption of Austen’s previously unfinished work (Sanditon), news of a somewhat different type of Austen adaptation has fans worldwide eagerly anticipating the forthcoming small screen version of Gill Hornby’s critically-acclaimed Miss Austen which focuses on the life of the author herself.

This just in! The first ever television adaptation of Jane Austen’s final and unfinished 11-part novel Sanditon is coming to Masterpiece on PBS during the 2020 season as an 8-part series by Andrew Davies!

With the recent Death Comes to Pemberley, BBC and PBS viewers were reacquainted with Jane Austen…sort of. 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' with Downton's Lily James up next for a post-Doctor Who, Matt Smith

What’s next after you just spent three seasons as the Eleventh Traveling Time Lord? A bit of Jane Austen and Zombies, obviously. The adaptation of the Seth Grahame-Smith novel of the same name has been in the works since 2009, long before Matt Smith became a household face and name as The Doctor, and was originally rumored to be a 6-part television series. Smith has joined the cast as a ‘Mr. Collins’, alongside girlfriend Lily James (Downton Abbey) who is playing the lead.
