St. Paddy's Day from Craggy Island
With the realization that many across the globe have been celebrating St. Patrick’s Day since Saturday, what better way to cap off the festivities than a trip to Craggy Island to spend some quality time with Father Ted Crilly, Father Dougal McGuire, Mrs. Doyle and Father Jack Hackett and his daily simple pleasures routine of sleeping, eating and drinking. Brilliantly written by Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews, Father Ted still lives on as one of the most popular British comedies (yes, all the particulars are Irish, but it’s still considered a British comedy) of all time, even though there were only 3 seasons.
It’s hard to tell whether or not there would have been a series 4 had it not been for the unfortunate and untimely death in late February 1998 of Dermot Morgan (Father Ted). With the series 3 premiere the week after Morgan’s death, Channel 4 delayed the series premiere by one week out of respect for Morgan and his family. Seeing the light of day only a couple of times leading up to the original premiere date, here’s a series 3 promo trailer featuring Morgan as “Professor Ted Crilly”.
