Poirot and Miss Marple ↑ — Prime Suspect ↓
Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot
The news couldn’t be any better for television drama fans, no matter which side of the pond you’re waking up to today. As tweeted a couple of days ago by the brilliant David Suchet (@David_Suchet), there are more Hercule Poirot episodes in the works from ITV.
The upcoming season of Poirot will feature Christie’s Labours of Hercules, Dead Man’s Folly, The Big Four, Elephants Can Remember and Curtain and complete Suchet’s desire to film all of Christie’s works. In total, Suchet has played the detective for 22 years, a total of 65 films.
Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple
More welcome news from ITV regarding Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple. Julia McKenzie will return in her title role with filming to begin on A Caribbean Mystery next summer and Endless Night and The Seven Dials Mystery targeted for a Fall 2012 shoot date.
NBC’s Prime Suspect solves its last case
NBC, thankfully, has shut down production of Prime Suspect. The first year series was left off the NBC mid-season schedule it was announced as the network aired the 7th episode out of the original 13 order. The last new episode will air Thursday, 5 January 2012. While Maria Bello gave it the old college try as Detective Jane Timoney, the series just never came close to the recognized brilliance of Helen Mirren’s portrayal of DCI Jane Tennison in the original Granada Television production for ITV.
Add this to the long list of American network television re-makes that ended before completion of the first season. Can’t wait for the rumored ABC re-make of Spooks….
