Brit TV rumours that are too good to be true
If no one has denied them…are they still rumours?
Thankfully, neither of these bits of information came to me on April Fools Day. If they do come to pass, the fact that both came across my desk on Friday the 13th should so change the way we all look at this fateful day from this day forward.
A possible Tom Baker return for Doctor Who 50th?
This rumour has begun to re-surface the last several days and, quite frankly, I’ll believe it when I see it. There have been numerous instances in the past that would lead you to believe, rightfully so, that the fourth Doctor would have no interest in returning. Baker has been fairly public in years past about the fact that he thinks Doctor Who ruined his career, although he also admitted it was the “loveliest job I ever had.” Conversely, Baker went on to say, “…I think if they ask me nicely or I can see what they want me to do, I’d consider it. I think the fans have been so good to me, they’d expect me to at least make an appearance.”
Anyone for Spooks XI?
Don’t set the DVR’s just yet, but Miranda Raison, who played Jo Portman for five seasons, recently told Digital Spy that she could see the day when Spooks could return mainly because of the potential for storylines that would tie in well with current events. The chance of this happening is probably somewhere between ‘slim’ and ‘none’ but it would be brilliant. She further explained her reasoning as to why now, “…with the Jubilee and the Olympics, now would be a fantastic time to have that story told. But there’s always going to be a drama about MI5 and about London.”
The actress did admit that, while she loved her time on the series, it would be virtually impossible for Jo to return after having been gut-wrenchingly killed off in series 8. “To undermine something like that – I know the scriptwriters wouldn’t do a Bobby Ewing style – but sometimes you have to look at a body of work and be proud of it, but nod and move on.”
Raison, for the time being, has moved on and can be seen on the BBC later this month in the police comedy-drama Vexed, working alongside Toby Stephens, who just happens to also appear in tonight’s episode of Inspector Lewis “Generation of Vipers” as part of PBS’ Masterpiece series at 8:00p CT/9:00p ET,
