‘Death in Paradise’ returns with, you guessed it, more ‘death in paradise’

The brilliant Death in Paradise returned to BBC1 last night for a 6th series (the series premieres tonight in Australia on BBC First). For a sleepy little Caribbean island town of Saint Marie, rest assured there’s a lot more death on the horizon as series 6 of Death in Paradise is just around the corner. Kris Marshall, who fully embraces the Caribbean lifestyle after taking over for the original DIP fish-out-of-water Ben Miller beginning with series 4, returns as Humphrey Goodman alongside actors Danny John-Jules (Red Dwarf) as Officer Dwayne Myers, Josephine Jobert (below) who plays DS Florence Cassell (her first English language role), Don Warrington and Tobi Bakare (The Tunnel) as Officer JP Hooper.

Not Going Out star Sally Bretton will also return to the show as a potential love interest Martha Lloyd. Bretton, who first appeared in last season’s final episode when, while on holiday in Saint Marie, she nervously bumps into Humphrey, an old friend from the UK.

Death in Paradise has always been well-known for its guest stars and series 6 has already proven to be no different. Already announced by the BBC are the like of Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted, My Hero, After Hours), Douglas Hodge (The Night Manager), Natasha Little (Thirteen), Adrian Rawlins (Dickensian), Monica Dolan (W1A), Ramon Tikaram (Happy Valley), Emily Taaffee (War And Peace), Gary Beadle (Eastenders), Fiona Allen (Waterloo Road), Kerry Fox (Glue), Kemi-Bo Jacobs (Thirteen) and Mark Powley (Birds Of A Feather).

For the first time since the series began back in 2011, the show will leave the friendly confines of Guadeloupe as the Honore police team heads to London to solve one of the islands most complex murder cases in a two-part special that unfolds in the British capital. Tim Key, Executive producer of Death In Paradise, says: “We are very excited to be bringing Death In Paradise to London for the very first time. Humphrey has always been a fish out of water in Saint Marie, adjusting to the island’s ways and customs, but for the scenes set in London, the roles are reversed as he is back in his hometown, giving an opportunity to explore the characters that viewers know and love against a new backdrop.

Series 5 of Death in Paradise begins airing this month on a number of public television stations (Saturday, January 7th at 7:00p on KERA in North Texas) with series 6 not to far behind in 2017.
