‘Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl’ proves that penguins are ‘cute but evil’.
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, the upcoming 2024 British stop motion animated comedy film produced by Aardman Animations and directed by Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham, featuring Park’s characters from the Wallace & Gromit series is scheduled for Christmas Day on BBC One as part of their annual Christmas Day/Boxing Day telly brilliance.
It is the sixth Wallace & Gromit film overall, the first since A Matter of Loaf and Death in 2008 and the second feature-length film following The Curse of the Were-Rabbit in 2005, serving as a full-length sequel to The Wrong Trousers (1993).
In Vengeance Most Fowl, Gromit’s concern that Wallace is becoming too dependent on his inventions proves justified when Wallace invents a ‘smart gnome’ that seems to develop an evil mind of its own. When it emerges that a familiar vengeful figure from the past might be masterminding things, it falls to Gromit to battle sinister forces and save his master… or Wallace may never be able to invent again!
The newest effort from Aardman sees the return of Feathers McGraw, an old rival and the evil genius behind the ensuing mayhem, who has seemingly framed everybody’s favorite inventor in a series of stolen garden goods. In other words, proof positive that penguins are cute but also nothing short of pure evil.
While this definitely appears to be another installment of Aardman greatness, Wallace’s original voice, Peter Sallis, had retired from the character, and in 2017 died at the age of 96, so Ben Whitehead has been voicing him since then in the various bits of Wallace and Gromit animation that has been made in the years since.
In addition to Whitehead, also lending their voice to the feature will be Peter Kay as Chief Inspector Albert Mackintosh, Reece Shearsmith as Norbot (the smart gnome) with Sir Lenny Henry appearing in a cameo role.
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is currently set to air on BBC One in the UK Christmas Day and available globally on Netflix January 3, 2025.
