Man-eating plants to roam Britain in 2011
Yet another “eagerly awaited” re-make premieres this week on BBC One when Eddie Izzard, Vanessa Redgrave and Dougray Scott star in, hopefully, a well-deserved re-do of John Wyndham’s 1951 novel, Day of the Triffids .
Set in 2011, this new version, on the surface, seems like it has a lot going for it with some great CGI technology applied to the killer vegetation and a script by ER and Law & Order writer, Patrick Harbinson. Hopefully, it doesn’t fall into the proverbial re-make trap and let special effects cloud the fact that it’s poorly done. That said, it is a story about mobile man-eating plants roaming Britain. It’s not Jane Austen. If it makes you forget about everything for 3-hours, it’s worth the time.
On a side note and fresh off of his incredible 1,000+ mile marathon running journey around the whole of the United Kingdom for Sport Relief where he ran an unbelievable 43 marathons in 51 days, Eddie Izzard will be at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on January 21, 2010. Doesn’t come around often, so if you can, go see him. Again, well worth the time.
