Yes Prime Minister with a Blackberry
In what seems to be a weekly occurrence these days, another classic British comedy has made the leap from the small screen to the live stage. Over the course of the last several months, the likes of Are You Being Served, Keeping Up Appearances and Dad’s Army have been adapted for the stage. After a short very successful regional theatre run at the Chichester Festival Theatre, all the greatness that is Yes Prime Minister can be absorbed at the Gielgud Theatre in London’s West End beginning tonight, 21 September.
It’s been 30 years since co-creators/co-writers Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn brought us into the world of Jim Hacker and Sir Humphrey Appleby. Listening to the dialogue, it seems like yesterday. Both Jay and Lynn have written this 21st century adaptation of this timeless classic which stars a well-known face and name to public television audiences, David Haig, as Jim Hacker. For fans of My Hero, you’ll also discover that Emily Joyce (Janet Dawkins) plays Claire Sutton.
As we wrote recently, this is why British comedy is so great. Not a week goes by that you can’t find a favorite British comedy actor or actress on stage in the West End or any of the amazing regional theaters throughout England. If you’re in the UK, go. If you’re on the way there soon, go.
Otherwise, you’ll have to watch the preview below and then get the boxed set of DVD’s and enjoy the original.
