Bugatti Veyron 16.4 vs McLaren F1

Should you have an extra $1+ million dollars lying around, you might want to read on. If you don’t, you might read on anyway as you might just recognize the individual given the charge to compare the two $1 million dollar automobiles. Known simply as Blackadder or Mr. Bean to many of us, Rowan Atkinson is also an amazing car enthusiast. His collection includes a McLaren F1, a Honda NSX, an Audi A8 and, on the conservative side, a Honda Civic Hybrid.

2009_bugatti_veyron-164_det_fe_1_276.jpgAtkinson was given the task to take a 2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 and compare it to a 1997 McLaren F1 for an article in a recent issue of Octane Magazine. It’s an exceptionally great read as I would have never thought to have compared the two cars on the basis of usability, practicality and reliability. I would think, as Atkinson puts it, which one can hit warp-speed faster would be winner.

The result of the comparison? You have to decide. According to Atkinson, the Bugatti is a better car, but the McLaren is more “special”. He also has an amazing rationalization for getting both if you have a couple of million handy and can’t decide between the two.

In case you haven’t seen the Veyron in action, here’s a quick clip from Top Gear of the car Atkinson calls “adorable”.
