As Time Goes By scores pop culture mention in Funky Winkerbean

Okay, it may not be the Simpsons, Family Guy or Southpark, but it is Funky Winkerbean with a not so subtle appointment television nod to Bob Larbey, Geoffrey Palmer and Judi Dench. A big shout out and thanks to Lisa C., long-time British comedy/drama fan in North Texas and frequent Tellyspotting contributor in the comment section, for sending us this from the Toronto Star Friday edition online. Anyone else spot anything out there, send it along and we’ll be glad to showcase and give proper props. Cheers.

I am a britcom fan (and maybe, critic.) I am glad to see this (although ATGB is not my favorite, I think it is very good) but – maybe it’s off-topic – I’m not sure I understand the FW strip. Maybe this is why I’m not a big fan of Funky Winkerbean: Seems obvious… middle-age guy visiting his dad for a brief time (as time goes by) but… is this supposed to be ironic? Is the middle-age guy supposed to be doing a good thing? Not so good? I’m not saying it’s a bad comic strip, but I guess I just don’t quite get it. I don’t think it is totally pointless to wonder about this…
