Frankenstein encores in UK theatres, June 2012

Frankenstein – coming to a theatre near you…hopefully

If you didn’t get a chance to see this impossible to put in to words National Theatre presentation of the Mary Shelley classic either live or back in March of 2011, this is not to be missed the second time around. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting, Sherlock in the upcoming CBS pilot, Elementary), you may remember our original post following our extremely fortunate opportunity to see live at the National Theatre in London back in February 2011. The response to the March 2011 screenings worldwide was, needless to say, phenomenal. So much so, another round of screenings are beginning to materialize in the UK for June of this year.

Sadly, no word as of yet regarding U.S. theater screenings, but there has been talk of the same June 2012 period of time for the rest of the world. Stay tuned. I will let everyone know as soon as word comes out of NT Live.

Unfortunately, at this time, there are no plans to release a DVD of this stellar production. Channel 4, however, is producing a documentary, Frankenstein: The Making of a Myth which takes a look behind-the-scenes of the Danny  Boyle/Nick Dear collaboration. No broadcast date has been set as of yet.
