As if I needed any more reason to book my trip to now to San Diego for Comic-Con 2013. Peter Jackson’s next epic, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will enter our lives on 14 December 2012. The second installment, The Hobbit: There And Back Again, is scheduled to be released a year later, on Dec. 13, 2013. Cast and crew recently invaded San Diego for Comic-Con 2012 and shared some pretty brilliant moments with all those in attendance AND, thanks to the magic of the Internets, the millions unable to get in to the packed session or attend this year.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, directed and produced by Peter Jackson and based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s fantasy novel of the same name, the long-awaited films will serve as a prequel to Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film trilogy and will star Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug. After seeing various trailers and behind-the-scenes videos, I’m inclined to be ok with the fact that the shooting of The Hobbit took both Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman away from even beginning to think about shooting the third series of Sherlock.
