Dawn French added to cast of Sue Perkins' Heading Out

The cast list for a recently announced British comedy series is starting to read like a who’s who list of British comedy. Heading Out is star and be written by Sue Perkins, who just finished hosting duties for The Great British Bake Off . The six-part series will also star Steve Pemberton (League of Gentlemen, Whitechapel, Benindorm), Jeff Rawle (Drop the Dead Donkey, Doc Martin, Spooks), Nicola Walker (Spooks, Inside Men, Being Human) and Eastenders legend, June Brown.

According to a recent BBC press release, Perkins will not only write the series but will play Sara – a veterinarian ‘so skilled she can spay a tortoise one-handed’. She’s successful, she’s popular – there’s just one chink in her armour – she’s too scared to tell her parents she’s gay. On the evening of her 40th birthday, Sara’s friends give her an ultimatum: either she tells her parents when they come to visit in six weeks’ time, or they will. To help Sara achieve this goal, they’ve saved up to buy a series of sessions with Toria, the eccentric and mildly-qualified lifestyle coach / therapist, and so the countdown begins.

For Dawn French, it’s a return to the small screen following two seasons of Roger and Val Have Just Got In with Alfred Molina with no word yet as to whether or not a third series is being talked about. Either way, Heading Out is slated for BBC Two broadcast sometime in 2013.
