First glimpse of Jenna Coleman as ‘Queen Victoria’

Jenna Coleman’s post-Doctor Who career has ‘officially’ begun with the first pics that have been released of the forthcoming ITV series, Victoria.

With the release of the first images, also comes the news that Rufus Sewell (Parade’s End) has been added to the cast as Lord Melbourne, Victoria’s first prime minister. The drama will also star Peter Firth (Spooks) as the Queen’s conniving uncle the Duke of Cumberland, Eve Myles (Torchwood, Frankie, Broadchurch) as her senior dresser, and Nell Hudson (Outlander, Call the Midwife) as a mysterious new member of the household.

As Coleman prepared to leave her role on Doctor Who and with the series set to begin filming this month in the North of England, she was quick to realize the fact that she had approximately four weeks to go from ‘companion to Queen’, recently telling Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw, “I am about to start work on Queen Victoria. I have four weeks to become a Queen! It’s ITV. I need to learn to ride a horse. I need to learn to waltz, play Beethoven. It’s really fun.

The 8-part series will focus on the early life of Queen Victoria, from her accession to the throne at just 18 through to her marriage to Prince Albert.

Look for Victoria to air on ITV in 2016.
