Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery heads to 1800s New Mexico in ‘Godless’

With her role as Lady Mary Crawley from Downton Abbey clearly in her rear view mirror, Michelle Dockery has traded in her parasol and channeled her gun-totin’ non-Lady Mary side to star in Godless, a new western series which has begun filming in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery heads to 1800s New Mexico in Godless

The limited period drama series set in a New Mexico mining town in the 1800s, will air on Netflix in 2017 and comes from the Out of Sight duo of Steven Soderbergh and Scott Frank.  Frank will direct and executive produce with Soderbergh (Oceans Eleven, Traffic) as producer.

The series centers around Frank Griffin, played by Jeff Daniels, a notorious criminal that terrorizes towns across the Wild West. Griffin is hunting down his former partner and now mortal enemy Roy Goode (Jack O’Connell), who is hiding out on Alice Fletcher’s (Dockery) ranch. Seems as though Goode is on the run from his former mentor after stealing their fortune for himself. That would do it, I think.

If you happen to be a Lady Mary fan and are having a bit of a hard time picturing the Downton Abbey mainstay as a gun-toting female in the 1800s, think again. It’s a spoof but let us not forget her stint in Tough Justice with co-star, Michael Chiklis. Admittedly, it looks like there was a bit of a learning curve, but I think DA has been in her rear view mirror long enough for her to be able to pull this off.
