Victoria’s reign to continue as second series commissioned
Much like had been the case for the last several years of Downton Abbey, a new series of Victoria has been commissioned before the conclusion of series one. Even better news for American audiences on PBS as they are now armed with the knowledge that the series will continue before the first episode ever airs. Victoria premieres on PBS on January 15, 2017 at 9:00pET/8:00pCT. Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes will return as the young Queen and Prince Albert, respectively.
As with Downton, the commissioning of a second series is somewhat of a no-brainer given the fact that the first series has been averaging 7.7 million viewers and 29.7% share of viewing in the UK based on consolidated overnights. These numbers make Victoria the top rated ITV drama of the year so far.
Mammoth Screen’s Damien Timmer said, “The second series will deal with the next several years of Victoria’s reign and are, once again, packed full of extraordinary real life events, with constitutional crises, scandals at court and personal challenges aplenty for the Queen and Prince Albert. God Save the Queen!”
Victoria premieres Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 9:00pET/8:00pCT on PBS.
