Set your timers, Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off is coming, singing dough and all.

The first trailer for Channel 4’s incarnation of The Great British Bake Off has finally been released. Honestly, I’m not sure if I’m very scared or if I can’t wait to see this. My first thought was that this looks kind of cute because, well, it features singing dough, cakes, muffins and even croissants! But then you quickly realize that the one-minute trailer does not feature any glimpse of the Bake Off tent, nor does it give us a peak of the new line-up which while it does include returning judge Paul Hollywood, there are three GBBO newcomers in Prue Leith, Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding.

You may remember last year when the series bolted from their long-time home on the BBC to the ovens of Channel 4 for more ‘dough’. Sorry. Paul Hollywood remained loyal to the series and left to go with the Channel 4 effort while Mary Berry, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc chose to remain loyal to the BBC and whatever upcoming project they might come up with. With that background, the trailer took on an even more curious and possibly purposeful tone with the ‘show of unity’-type lyrics of “…side by side, hand in hand, we all stand together“.

While we’ve yet to see any footage from the new series, Channel 4 has said that viewers will be treated to a more modern version of The Great British Bake Off as they will attempt to leave the old-school innuendos and soggy-bottom jokes in the shows rear view mirror. They are promising jaw-dropping baking, a new comic-riff and a fantastic chemistry between the four hosts when the show returns this Fall on Channel 4. No word yet as to a possible American broadcast on PBS.
