More deaths in paradise in the works as ‘Death in Paradise’ commissioned for two more series

In addition to it being a bit hazardous to your health to live in a small English village, it appears that visiting the picturesque fictional Carribean island of Saint Marie is no less dangerous.

Death in Paradise creator/writer, Robert Thorogood, will continue to find a few more ingenious ways to kill off said visitors as the BBC announced that the series has been comissioned for 2 additional series (S13 and 14). In addition, two feature-length Christmas special episodes are also on their way beginning in December 2023.

At the risk of providing spoilers, given there are those in the U.S. that haven’t had the opportunity to see series 12 as of yet, let’s just say that DI Neville Parker has a fairly interesting S12 ender but it does look like he will be back for S13.

While no other cast confirmations have been announced, it’s more than likely that we will see Don Warrington (Commissioner Selwyn Patterson), Tahj Miles (Marlon Pryce), Shantol Jackson (Sergeant Naomi Thomas), Ginny Holder (Darlene Curtis) and Élizabeth Bourgine (Catherine Bordey) returning alongside Ralf Little.

Death in Paradise enters a select group when series 13 begins as it will mark the 100th episode of the series. In the era of one and done series, DIP will now be mentioned in the same paragraph as Doc Martin, New Tricks, Midsomer Murders, Call the Midwife, Father Brown, Vera and Silent Witness when it comes to series that made it to at least 10 series.

While Death in Paradise does have a semi-predictable habit of sending its lead characters on their way, usually after three series (DI Richard Poole, DI Humphrey Goodman, DI Jack Mooney), it’s good to see that DI Neville Parker won’t be voted off the island just yet.
