Post-‘Poldark’, Aidan Turner hits the tennis court in ‘Fifteen-Love’

Best known for his 5-year stint in PBS’ Poldark where, as Captain Ross Poldark, he returned from the American War of Independence to his home of Nampara in Cornwall after three years in the army only to find his estate is in ruins and in considerable debt, Aidan Turner is now seemingly on much safer ground as a tennis coach in Fifteen-Love.

The Amazon Prime series follows former tennis prodigy Justine Pearce, played by fellow Irish actress Ella Lily Hyland, as she makes an explosive allegation five years after an injury puts a stop to her career against her former coach Glenn Lapthorn (Turner) with whom she reached a semi-final at the French Open.

In addition to Turner, there are several names and faces that PBS viewers will recognize including Anna Chancellor (The Hour, The Crown, Downton Abbey, Mapp & Lucia, Death in Paradise, Grantchester ) and Tom Varey (Ridley Road, No Offence, Game of Thrones).

While I, personally, will better remember his as vampire, John Mitchell, in the Toby Whitehouse series, Being Human, Turner has been wall-to-wall busy since his time on Poldark starring as Leonardo Da Vinci in Leonardo, Kili in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy and in Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None.

Turner has spent much of this year so far acting on stage alongside Victoria/Doctor Who star Jenna Coleman in Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London.

Fifteen-Love will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Friday 21 July. Sorry, Aidan Turner fans, don’t expect him to recreate his ‘Poldark-moment’ in Fifteen-Love and take his shirt off coming out of the water this time around.
