Monty Python: The Holy Book of Days iPad app
Bring out your dead! Grab your coconuts! The Monty Python: The Holy Book of Days has arrived
Just days before the new iPad3 was announced came the brilliant news, finally, of an app from those crazy kids affectionately known around the world as Monty Python — Monty Python: The Holy Book of Days app for the iPad. Coincidence? I think not.
For the low,low price of $4.99 (£2.99), King Arthur, Sir Galahad the Pure, Sir Lancelot the Brave, Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave as Sir Lancelot, the Knights Who Say Ni, the Black Knight and others will take you on a quest to make an epic film in just 28 days, sans coconuts, through a highly-interactive Holy Book of Days app.
As the app description states: The Pythons have gone back to their vaults and pulled out a treasure trove of never-before-seen (or heard) outtakes, rehearsals, songs, sound effects, scripts, dozens of stills, and much much more.
Every page of the Holy Book of Days is packed with Python history, from Michael Palin’s day-by-day diary of the filming to Terry Gilliam’s storyboards to the original continuity sheets covering every shot to 360º views of props from the movie, it’s an unprecedented and a totally new look at Holy Grail.
Another totally cool aspect of the iPad app is that The Holy Book of Days provides a second screen companion to the Blu-ray release of Monty Python & the Holy Grail. When you sync your iPad and Blu-ray player via a WiFi network, the app becomes a remote control to where you can see the exact scenes talked about when the app is launched.
You don’t have to take my word for it. Check out these reviews from these highly reputable individuals that have no connection to the British comedy troupe, they just happen to have the same names…..
- “How do I get out of this thing so I can check my e-mails?” — John Cleese
- “Will it sync up with my VHS copy?” — Terry Gilliam
- “Michael is out of the office right now, but will be back on the 10th of April” — Michael Palin
- “Wow!” — Eric Idle
- “I can’t see a thing without my glasses” — Terry Jones
- “What’s an iPad?” — Graham Chapman
Have to say, the Holy Book of Days iPad app is a must for Python addicts. It is said to include never-before-seen video, outtakes, rehearsal footage, maps, animations, production stills, behind-the-scenes taken from Michael Palin’s diaries and an interactive map of Holy Grail locations. If you’ve always said you would never purchase an app and always click on the “top free” search button, might be time to reconsider and drop a few $$ to get this one.
