Dawn French may choose next Jesus Christ for 'Superstar'
It was last February when ITV1 announced that they were going to team up with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber to look for a rock star who will go on to sing the role of Jesus in the upcoming arena tour of the Tim Rice,Andrew Lloyd Webber hit, Jesus Christ Superstar. Following up on his past reality search programs, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, I’d Do Anything, Any Dream Will Do and Over The Rainbow, Lloyd Webber’s Superstar will seek the new lead which will kick off at the O2 Arena in London.
With Amanda Holden confirmed as the show host, Superstar is set to air over two weeks this coming July on ITV1. While producers have already begun utilizing the services of former Spice Girl, Melanie C (Blood Brothers) and Jason Donovan (Neighbours, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Rocky Horror Show and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) during the early stages of the audition process, it is now rumored that Dawn French has been discussing the possibility of becoming head judge when the show premieres later this summer.
Lloyd Webber cites the fact that both Melanie C and Jason Donovan can play upon their unique arena and stage experience to help narrow down the choices. As with all ‘reality’ programs, you need three judges for obvious tie-breaking reasons. Enter the possibility of adding everyone’s favorite vicar, Dawn French.
Of the possible addition of Dawn French, a show spokesperson said, “She is outspoken, someone who connects with ordinary people and has years and years of experience.” Thankfully, no mention was made that Dawn French would be the logical choice to choose the next Jesus because she played the part of Geraldine Granger in The Vicar of Dibley for 3 seasons and 13 years.
