LennonNYC on PBS' American Masters
Touched on this a bit earlier this summer, but now there’s more to share with video. Believe it or not, this October marks what would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday and then December would be the 30th anniversary of his death.
Focusing on the years following the breakup of the Beatles when Lennon and Yoko Ono moved to New York City in 1971, the new film from American Masters will premiere Monday, November 22 on PBS nationwide, including KERA in North Texas.
What really struck me watching the clip below is how much you come to realize that even with the undeniable success Lennon had being a part of the biggest rock group of all-time, the years he spent in New York away from all the Beatles-era pandemonium were some of his most critically acclaimed song-writing years.
There’s some amazing never-before-seen footage and never-before-heard studio recordings along with outtakes, home movies and some pretty great interviews.
LennonNYC on American Masters. PBS. KERA. November 22, 2010. Enjoy.
