Being Human 3 – January 2011 on BBC3?
Still searching for that elusive, definitive, premiere date for Being Human, series 3, on BBC 3, but nothing yet from the more elusive schedulers over at the Beeb. As you have determined from prior posts, I love this show. Premise sounds a bit like it came out of Buck Henry’s mouth in Robert Altman’s classic, The Player, but it works…and it works really well. Why, you ask?
Our suspicions were verified over the past year during our filming of the Behind the Britcom: From Script to Screen program for PBS broadcast in March 2011. There are two simple reasons that Being Human works. First and foremost, the script. Secondly, that actors. Sounds simple enough. But, separately, they will never create a hit. One can’t operate independently without the other. Created and written by Toby Whitehouse, the comedy/drama tells the story of a twenty-something ghost, werewolf and vampire that share a flat in Bristol and their efforts to ‘be human’. If you haven’t seen, you’re just going to have to trust me on this one. If you have seen, you know what I’m talking about.
Just as creative are the folks behind the camera, including the promotion staff and the folks over at the Being Human blog, who provide a brilliant snapshot of behind-the-scenes vignettes, prequel videos and context for the series. Check it out or follow them on Twitter (@bbcbeinghuman) as we approach the premiere this month.
Until then…here’s the official trailer for series 3 with a cool ‘making of’ as an added bonus. As they say, “It’s not always easy – Being Human“. Truer words have never been spoken. C’mon, BBC 3 schedulers, inquiring minds need to know.
