Rumors flying about upcoming ‘Sherlock’ Christmas special
With filming already underway in Gloucester, the Internets are dangerously close to running out of memory given the overabundance of rumors as to a possible storyline for the long-awaited Christmas 2015 Sherlock special. Given the fact that by the time the special airs, it will have been almost two years since our last brush with Sherlock greatness in January 2014, it’s understandable that grasping for straws has become part of the order of the day when it comes to Sherlock speculation. Early pics from Gloucester show quite the dapper looking John Watson complete with moustache and bowler hat while Sherlock steps back in time sporting the consulting detective’s customary deerstalker.
Series co-creator, Mark Gatiss, and director Douglas Mackinnon have taken to Twitter to either add petrol to the burning rumor mill or simply give Sherlock fans who have been waiting (im)-patiently a few bits to mull over in their collective mind palaces. Gatiss tweeted an on-camera image, along with quotes from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s story The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle, hinting what the special could be based on. Posting the same image, Mackinnon tweeted: “The stars were shining coldly in a cloudless sky.”
As if this wasn’t enough to thoroughly send the Sherlock-Nation into orbit, series producers Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue have recently hinted that fans can ‘expect big changes’ when the series returns Christmas 2015. Benedict Cumberbatch has described the next series of Sherlock as “phenomenal” while Moffat said at the Emmy Awards this past Fall that he felt like the fourth series would be better than ever and that he has a ‘devastating’ plan for the series’ return, adding that they were more excited than ever about the upcoming Sherlock.
