Rising from the ashes, ‘Sanditon’ (the town and the series) returns March 20 to PBS Masterpiece!
The seaside resort town of Sanditon isn’t the only thing set to rise from the ashes in early 2022 as Sanditon, the television adaptation of the ‘unfinished Jane Austen’ novel of the same name, returns for as second series on March 20 as part of PBS Masterpiece.
It’s been awhile but no doubt we all remember the conclusion of series 1 when Sanditon went up in flames along with what seemed like the possibility of a series 2. Thanks to his brother, Sidney, Tom Parker (Kris Marshall) had a better chance at raising the money to rebuild the seaside town than any chance for a second series.
Thanks, in large part, to a relentless fan effort headed up by the #SanditonSisterhood to keep the series alive, it was announced earlier this year that the PBS period drama would continue with not only a series 2 but also a series 3!
It’s here: the #SanditonSurprise Stunt!
It’s been a journey in so many ways.
Look how far we’ve come.
#Sanditon – The Journey Continues
New adventures to come!

With the future of Sanditon unclear at the end of series 1, broken hearts and tearful departures seem to be in the rear view mirror as series 2 picks up nine months after the devasting fire that almost destroyed the seaside resort on the night of the Midsummer Ball. The town is now experiencing a growing sense of popularity with a crop of fresh new faces mixed in with some familiar ones.
While not much is known about what’s next for Sanditon, Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) returns only to find she has not one, but two suitors in town hoping to put Sidney Parker out of her mind. Charlotte’s starry-eyed sister, Alison (Rosie Graham), arrives with Charlotte in search of her own true love while Miss Lamb (Crystal Clarke) is more determined than ever to forge her own identity as she heads towards her 21st year.
Series 2 brings a whole bagful of new challenges for Tom as he deals with the dysfunctional Denhams not to mention the fact that the Army arrives to make their new base in Sanditon bringing a whole new set of issues to overcome to realize his dream of a thriving seaside town.
Anne Reid (Lady Denham), Jack Fox (Edward Denham), Charlotte Spencer (Esther Babbington), Turlough Convery (Arthur Parker), Kate Ashfield (Mary Parker), Kevin Eldon (Mr. Hankins), Adrian Scarborough (Dr. Fuchs) and Lily Sacofsky (Clara Brereton) return alongside Rose Williams, Crystal Clarke and Kris Marshall to welcome new Sanditon residents and potential Charlotte suitors, Ben Lloyd-Hughes and Tom Weston-Jones.
Sanditon S2 returns Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 9pET/8pCT on PBS Masterpiece.
