Monday scattershooting….Paul the alien, Ricky Gervais, Bond23 and more….
Meet Paul, the 21st century E.T., premiering tonight
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the genius minds behind Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, star as two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage takes them to America’s UFO heartland, where they meet ‘Paul‘, an alien who alters their universe forever. Let’s just say, this isn’t your parents E.T. The film premieres tonight in the UK, with the red carpet world premiere at the Odeon Cinema, Leicester Square, in London, and in the U.S. nationwide on March 18, 2011, after its premiere at SXSW in Austin, TX.

Michael Scott, meet David Brent. David Brent, Michael Scott
It was a long time coming and long overdue for many, but Michael Scott finally crossed paths with his UK counterpart last month during an episode of the US version of The Office. Ricky Gervais, a.k.a. David Brent, has had a big hand in creating one of the few and far between successful transfers of a British comedy to a US version as both he and writing partner, Stephen Merchant, remain involved as producers, even writing one episode.

Judi Dench returns to head MI-6
Just like Hotel California where you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave, MI6 has again called on the services of Dame Judi Dench for the upcoming Bond film, starring Daniel Craig. The really cool news, besides the fact that filming is finally going forward after rumors of a financial meltdown shelved it for a bit, is that Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Biutiful) is being targeted as the Bond villain this time around. If all goes according to plan, the film, with a unbelievably bad working title of Bond23, is set to premiere on November 9, 2012, which is the 50th anniversary of the Bond empire.
Geoffrey Palmer gives back to Buckinghamshire
While he’s been giving laughs to us all for years by sharing his acting talents in the likes of As Time Goes By, Fawlty Towers, Doctor Who, Blackadder, Absolute Power and more, Geoffrey Palmer still finds time to continually give back to community this past week as he was on hand at the re-opening of a charity shop in Risborough. The shop supports the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home charity of which Palmer is a patron. Thanks, Geoffrey, not only for the years of laughter, but for your on-going commitment to giving back to the community.
Fawlty Towers night at the Crown Tavern in Falsgrave
If you find yourself in the Scarborough area on the night of 12 February, don’t be surprised if you encounter a bit of Fawlty Towers at the Crown Tavern in Falsgrave. The Limelight Company will be re-creating their popular Fawlty Towers night complete with waldorf salad. Never been a fan of dinner theatres and never will be, but this might just be fun. Just don’t mention the war.
