Think Cardiff pre-2012 Olympics and the Doctor Who locations tour

We’ve all heard the catchphrases of recent years like Pink in the new black and 50 is the new 30. Now we can safely add Cardiff is the new London to the mix. Cardiff is now home to a number of shooting locales for the best television on television such as Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Gavin & Stacey and Sherlock to name a few. It only makes sense given Terry Nation, creator of the Daleks, was born in Cardiff and Russell T. Davies was born in nearby Swansea, right? You knew, somehow, the Doctor and the Tardis would find their way back home sooner or later.

You’re now find yourself in Cardiff with four hours to kill. What to do. What to do. At the risk of sounding like a homer from the convention and visitors bureau, not to worry. Aside from bustling markets, great nightlife and landmark structures such as Cardiff Castle, the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist or the Millennium Centre, visitors now have a chance to get up close and personal with a tour of some of their favorite Doctor Who locales and The TARDIS Trail, run by Brit Movie Tours.

When else will you get the chance to see where Captain Jack Harkness died and then came back to life or where the Doctor fought the Family of Blood? Don’t forget the House of Fraser on St. Mary Street where shop mannequins some to life at the most inopportune time. The tour runs every Saturday now through October. If you’re not in Cardiff, make the two-hour trek over from London or wherever you are, enjoy the tour by day and the Cardiff nightlife by night. It’s well worth the effort. If you go, send back photos. Unfortunately, tour ends before the world descends on London and surrounding areas for the 2012 Olympics, but what a great way to familiarize yourself with a great city now before coming back in 2012.
