Greece vs. Germany: Better match-up in EURO 2012 or EURO 425 B.C.?

Looking at the groupings for the EURO 2012, the European Championships that begin today, one can probably guess that Greece will not be playing Germany in the knockout stages. You never know, however, as it’s quite possible the 2004 Euro champion will make it out of Group A and advance. Even though Germany is in a tough Group B along with the Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark, they should be able to advance.

Leave it to the genius minds of Monty Python to look back on the last time Germany and Greece met. Battling through what seemed to be a quite valid argument surrounding the winning goal by Socrates, Michael Palin was brilliant showing just enough emotion for the victorious Greeks while adding a bit of validity to the Germans as they question the non-call of offsides. Debate amongst yourselves.

Socrates has scored! The Greeks are going mad! Socrates scores, got a beautiful cross from Archimedes. The Germans are disputing it. Hegel is arguing that the reality is merely an a priori adjunct of non-naturalistic ethics, Kant, via the categorical imperative, is holding that ontologically it exists only in the imagination, and Marx is claiming it was offside.

With Plato in goal for Greece, how could the outcome have been any different?
