PBS' Sherlock — 'Must see TV' — Sunday
Having just watched a stellar 4-part documentary from the BBC on the history of NASA, it seems appropriate to begin today’s post with a space reference.
T-minus 36 hours and counting until the premiere of Sherlock on PBS
Critics agree from coast to coast. Perhaps the best example of the phrase “…if you watch one television series this year, watch Masterpiece “Sherlock” beginning this Sunday, October 24 (9p ET/8p CT) on PBS stations nationwide”. Co-created and co-written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, the three-part series stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock and Martin Freeman as Dr. Watson. Need I say more?
From a UK perspective, the series ran earlier this year on the BBC to both critical acclaim and strong audience figures. That combination has already led to the Beeb funding a second set of three programs, which co-creator, Steven Moffat, has already teased with it’s only going to get better from here. If anyone in the UK would like to comment on Sherlock and what we’re in for here in the US, feel free.
Here’s what the critics have said so far. Having seen two of the three programs, I find myself finally agreeing with critics that review television programs. Set DVR’s now.
San Francisco Chronicle — “A Fresh Dose of Fun – Sherlock”
New York Times — “The Latest Sherlock hears a Who“
Boston Globe — “A modern classic, modernized“
If you haven’t programmed the DVR yet, hopefully, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss will convince you.
Now…what are you waiting for?
