Creating the miniatures on PBS’ “The Miniaturist”
Fully admitting that I sometimes watch the DVD extras before watching the actual episode, I love knowing how the sausage is made…unless, of course, if you are actually talking about sausage. In the case of The Miniaturist, PBS’ newest Masterpiece which is currently airing on Sunday nights, this behind-the-scenes look at the making of the actual miniatures that are on the brink of playing havoc for Petronella, her husband Johannes, Peebo and Marin, the Mrs. Danvers of Amsterdam, is particularly interesting.
It seems that miniature houses were quite the rage in the 17th century with people spending ridiculous sums of money on them. If you thinking of possessing a miniature house, just be wary of the unsolicited packages from the miniaturist sent your way to help fill out the rooms.
The Miniaturist on Masterpiece continues Sundays at 9pET/8pCT on PBS.
