Fall officially begins Sunday on PBS with the return of ‘Poldark’
You know the time of year. The light starts to change, college football is in full-swing, leaves begin to change color, the Texas State Fair cranks up the Midway and the temperatures begin to signal it’s almost sweater weather. Well, there’s really only one way to tell that Fall is upon us and it’s not with any of the usual telltale signs. For me, it’s when PBS’ Masterpiece kicks into high gear and brings a full array of brilliant drama on Sunday evenings.
That said, Fall officially begins this Sunday at 9pET/8pCT and the return of Poldark to a PBS station near you. For series 3, the Warleggan feud kicks into high gear with a bad moon rising over the Cornish coastline. Remember, as series two concluded, Elizabeth had fallen pregnant after her night with Ross. Now, Elizabeth finds herself firmly entrenched in the Warleggan camp having married Ross’ arch enemy George which escalated the Poldark/Warleggan feud to levels we have yet to see.
Ross and Demelza seem to be a little more settled in their marriage as they ‘work at a team’. How long that will last is anyone’s guess as the charm of Demelza is not lost on the other menfolk with signs pointing to a new admirer in the form of Josh Whithouse, played by Toby Armitage.
Fortunately, Fall on PBS doesn’t end on Sunday with the return of Poldark. Drama Sundays on PBS will also see the premiere of The Collection beginning Sunday, October 8 at 10pET/9pCT. Bringing bit of contemporary haute couture to Sunday evenings along with just enough conspiracy and sleaze to keep you coming back for more, The Collection is set in post-war Paris bringing to life the world of Paul Sabine, played brilliantly by Coupling‘s Richard Coyle, a designer with some secrets to hide charged with revitalizing French fashion by the richest man in France. The 7-part series, which runs through Sunday, November 19, also stars Frances de la Tour (Vicious), Michael Kitchen (Foyle’s War), Tom Riley (Da Vinci’s Demons) and Sarah Parish (W1A, Trollied, Broadchurch).
If that’s not enough to where you’re still stuck in Summer mode, how about topping it off with the return of The Durrells on Masterpiece for a second season. The Durrells are unpacking their bags and will stay in Corfu for a second series beginning Sunday, October 15 at 9pET/8pCT on PBS’ Masterpiece series. In season 2, Larry (Josh O’Connor) continues to pursue his passion for writing despite a new romance getting in the way; Leslie (Callum Woodhouse) decides to explore his entrepreneurial spirit; Margo (Daisy Waterstone) remains boy crazy and makes a play for someone thoroughly unsuitable; and Gerry (Milo Parker) who prefers animals to people is delighted when he discovers an otter is living close to home.
With Poldark, The Collection and The Durrells headed our way this October, passing the time until the return of Victoria on January 15, 2018 shouldn’t be an issue.
Poldark returns to PBS’ Masterpiece Sunday at 9pET/8pCT with The Collection and The Durrells not far behind.
