Looking at the calendar, it’s hard to believe it is already October. Can someone tell me what happened to March through September?? It’s also hard to believe that yesterday, Monday, October 5th, marked the 45th anniversary of the UK premiere of Poldark. As the Call the Midwife Holiday Special resumed filming last month, creator Heidi Thomas was understandably excited at not only being able to get the CTM family back together but also had some equally as exciting news about the traditional holiday special. In my book, Keeley Hawes is quickly entering the Nicola Walker/Suranne Jones/Bill Nighy arena. I could watch and listen to each of them simply read the phone book and it would be stellar telly. In addition to her efforts in Spooks, Ashes to Ashes, Bodyguard, The Durrells in Corfu and Summer of Rockets, her intense portrayal of DI Lindsay Denton in Jed Mercurio’s Line of Duty could be considered a masterclass performance.

Sadly, Dame Diana Rigg has passed away at the age of 82. While an entire generation may only know her from HBO’s Game of Thrones and, possibly, PBS’ Victoria, much of the world will no doubt remember the acting legend from her time on The Avengers alongside Patrick McNee as secret agent Emma Peel or in the James Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, where she holds the distinction of being only woman to have ever married James Bond, or from her time serving as the host of the PBS series, Mystery, from 1989 to 2003.
