Lesley Manville as editor turned sleuth Susan Ryeland and Timothy McMullan as fictional detective Atticus Pünd will both reprise their roles when the Magpie Murders band gets back together to film the Anthony Horowitz 2020 sequel, Moonflower Murders, later this year. Author Anthony Horowitz’s previous work is well-known amongst fans of British mysteries on PBS having created, written and/or adapted Agatha Christie’s Poirot, Foyle’s War and Midsomer Murders.

First look at ‘Annika’ S2 headed our way in 2023 on Masterpiece!

From the time I was first introduced to the greatness of Nicola Walker in her role as DI Susan Taylor in Touching Evil (co-starring with Grantchester‘s Robson Green), followed by her time as Ruth Evershed in Spooks (MI5), guest roles in Luther, Being Human and Inside Men, then her more recent efforts in Scott & Bailey, Last Tango in Halifax, Unforgotten and The Split once again I’m convinced […]

Remembering ‘Mystery’ on PBS before mystery was cool….

For those PBS Mystery series fans that are currently experiencing the Sunday evening greatness that is Miss Scarlet and the Duke, Magpie Murders and Annika and who have been anxiously awaiting each Summer for the new seasons of Endeavour and Grantchester for the better part of the last decade, you may not be aware of the root history of ‘mystery’ on PBS that needs to be recognized for those that remember way, way back into the 80’s, back when the Earth was beginning to cool from the Ice Age.

PBS is the place to be tonight for British mysteries on Masterpiece!

Look at it this way…there will be always be another Sunday night NFL football game next week, there are no Major League Baseball playoff games tonight, the NBA season doesn’t begin until the end of this month and there are still 80+ hockey games for your local team left in the regular season before the playoffs so you have absolutely no reason not to tune into your local PBS station tonight and feast of three of the best take-charge female detectives to grace the small screen.

Tempting fate, the ‘KERA British Telly Tour’ heads to Oxfordshire for a date with Inspector Morse, Lewis and Endeavour!

The KERA Great British Telly Tour headed to Oxford on Thursday for an Inspector Morse, Lewis and  Endeavour walking tour of the hallowed halls of the 39 colleges that make up Oxford University (16 of the colleges were actually featured in the Inspector Morse series alone!). Named the ‘fictional murder capital of England’ for obvious reasons, Oxford proved to be a treasure trove of information, partly in just learning how the University system works.

‘Van der Valk’ set for September 25 return on PBS Masterpiece

At long last, series 2 of Van der Valk is set to hit the PBS schedule beginning Sunday, September 25 on Masterpiece. I say ‘long-last’ because it was April 2020 when the first series transmitted and then June 2021 when Masterpiece announced that the Amsterdam-based series had begun filming their second season. Unfortunately, global shutdowns and lockdowns played havoc with any hope of series 2 being able to immediately follow series 1.

Douglas Henshall set to leave ‘Shetland’ after S7

Sad for us, but good for him, DI Jimmy Perez (aka Douglas Henshall) will leave the Shetland Islands in his rear view mirror when series 7 comes to a close later this Autumn. After having done his level best during his almost decade long tenure to unravel the seemingly endless murder mysteries set across Scotland’s striking Shetland Islands, it’s time according to Shetland series star Douglas Henshall.
