  • Making our way back to central London with a stop at the ‘Palace of the King’ before calling it a day!
    September 17, 2019

Making our way back to central London with a stop at the ‘Palace of the King’ before calling it a day!

While it was, admittedly, hard to leave the ice cream of Sidmouth and then also having to wave goodbye to Lady Grey of the DeVere Tortworth Court Hotel, the idea of walking the grounds of Hampton Court Palace as part of the next leg of the To the Manor Born KERA Tour of England tour somehow made everything more than tolerable.

A brief stop for ice cream in Sidmouth, a night with Lady Grey and then it’s on to Hampton Court Palace….

As we made our way back towards London from Cornwall, the To the Manor Born KERA Tour of England stopped briefly to grab an ice cream and see the red cliffs of the Jurassic Coast in Sidmouth, a seaside town with a rich royal history. It was December 1819 when the Duke and Duchess of Kent […]

  • Cricket St. Thomas, the home of ‘To the Manor Born’, next up as the KERA Tour of England continues west towards Port Isaac!

Cricket St. Thomas, the home of ‘To the Manor Born’, next up as the KERA Tour of England continues west towards Port Isaac!

Day 3 of the To the Manor Born KERA Tour of England begins with the Roman Baths in our rearview mirror as Jim points the motor coach west and heads to Cricket St. Thomas in Somerset, England. While the name may not be immediately familiar, I’m guessing that the staircase might give it away as the home of Audrey fforbes-Hamilton, then Richard DeVere then Audrey fforbes-Hamilton AND Richard DeVere in To the Manor Born.

The To the Manor Born KERA Tour of England got off to a brilliant start on Monday with a chamber of commerce/postcard perfect day in Windsor touring Windsor Castle. After a whirlwind beginning in Windsor, we boarded the motorcoach with Jim at the helm carefully navigating his way to Highclere Castle (a.k.a. Downton Abbey). The folks with […]

How the Les Misérables sausage was made

With Andrew Davies’ brilliant adaptation of Les Misérables coming to a close this Sunday on PBS’ Masterpiece series, have you ever wondered just how a series of this magnitude is made in the 21st century and at the same time seamlessly transport you back to 19th century France?

‘Downton Abbey: The Exhibition’ is headed to the Sunshine State for the winter

The West Palm Beach exhibition will be larger than its New York City counterpart, no doubt due to the cost differential of real estate between the two locations.

10 British things about … (insert U.S. city here)

Besides an insatiable appetite for British telly, American cities are increasingly becoming more like their British counterparts from a cuisine and/or pop culture standpoint. Whether you’re in Seattle, Portland (Maine), Fargo, San Antonio or any point in-between, there’s a good chance your city is more ‘British’ than you think. Thanks to some around-the-clock stellar work […]

Real-life Arkwright’s in danger of ‘calling it a day’ after 90 years

After 90 years of serving the community of Thornbury in Gloucestershire, the shop that is credited as being the inspiration for the classic British comedy series, Open All Hours, could be forced to shut after complaints that their outdoor display is a health and safety risk for mobility scooters (i.e. goods stacked outside to entice passerby’s to come inside […]
